Arsenic and Old Lace

Frank Capra - 1944
A wonderful farce, set almost entirely in one room (based on a play), that Capra constantly divides up into seperate areas. We never see, but are fully drawn into, upstairs, the kitchen (alright, we see it once), the cellar, and of course the multiple dead bodies? How? I'm not all too sure. Reframings of the main area, a view to the stairs and so on? Perhaps.
We also find a more biting critique than the name 'Capra' might suggest. The picket fence hides psychopaths, and there are some pretty nasty suggestions of what goes on, even in normal suburban life (nails under fingers, etc). Further, the whole thing could be said to be about sex; Grant (pulling faces, in silly mode) is terrified of his wedding night, must get the elderly female relatives out of the way...
