film of performances; tense, hard hands
back lighting, generally hard lit
panning shots from the side
rules broken, investigative shooting
bare interiors
scenes- epileptic, final, rain- all hugely overdetermined
deceptively simple, ans simple, byt more themes shooting off than Rosselini
