L’Arbe, Le Maire, la Mediatheque

1992, Eric Rohmer
Rohmer doesn’t dig to deep into the politics here, but gives what is basically a ordinary-folks eye account of the machinations. This is inkeeping with his general commitment to realism, to very much grounding all in exactly how it happens, or how it would happen. This is indeed a very tough line to toe; it’s a matter of atmosphere more than anything.
Within his classic tale-like structure this is slightly more fractured and episodic, following a variety of different characters. Perhaps no one strand really strikes too strongly, in a homely way this remains able, though, to chug along.
