L’Ami de Mon Amie

Eric Rohmer, 1987
This very simple tale does seem to have been made for the tourist board; there is a remarkable amount of lingering on the outdoor activities available and reasonably priced shops.... Indeed the narrative seems almost an afterthought, a not particularly deep rattle through a number of scenarios.
We have a story that is acted with little charisma, and a certain inconsistency, from our leads, making it rather difficult to engage. Indeed we’re left at certain points with them having to tell us how they feel. There’s a nice ending, with some colour matching in the light farce tone. Overall though, certainly not one of Rohmer’s better works.
